Why do we put up with it? PDF Print E-mail

I live in South Australia. A state where even World Naked Bike Ride protesters aren't allowed to take their clothes off. Where laws were introduced to make criminals out of anyone even commenting on an election without providing their real name and postcode on their Twitter or Blog account. Where teens doing burnouts in their cars, as teens have since the car was invented, are treated as potential murderers - their vehicle seized, crushed or auctioned off, their record smeared with a criminal conviction, huge fines and jail time thrown at them. Where pensioners can be fined thousands of dollars for watering their gardens with an unapproved nozzle on their hose at an unauthorised time of day. Where speed limits are constantly lowered to the point where almost everyone becomes a part time criminal and the government makes millions from all the fines.

We have allowed this to happen, all over the world. Why do we let it continue? When will everyone realise that we are no longer in control of our own lives? In the name of 'public safety' we are subject to suspicion, surveillance, search, investigation or interrogation at any time if we simply wish to board a plane, photograph or film our child in the playground or at a school play, or even use the internet. The concept of 'innocent until proven guilty' has become 'potentially guilty of anything all the time'.

This is not a site for conspiracy theorists. This is about our current reality, where terrorism has been used as an excuse to remove our rights to go about our business unhindered, or even unsuspected. We can change things, we've always had that power in a democracy, but we don't. There are more of us than there are of them and we even get to choose who they are and, through legitimate means of protest, letter writing and campaigning we can shape the laws that are used to govern us.

Join WeProtest.org and band together people. It's time we used the tools we have at our disposal to shape society back into something we can be proud of and enjoy living in.

Millions of Smiles PDF Print E-mail

The Joomla! team has millions of good reasons to be smiling about the Joomla! 1.5. In its current incarnation, it's had millions of downloads, taking it to an unprecedented level of popularity. The new code base is almost an entire re-factor of the old code base. The user experience is still extremely slick but for developers the API is a dream. A proper framework for real PHP architects seeking the best of the best.

If you're a former Mambo User or a 1.0 series Joomla! User, 1.5 is the future of CMSs for a number of reasons. It's more powerful, more flexible, more secure, and intuitive. Our developers and interface designers have worked countless hours to make this the most exciting release in the content management system sphere.

Go on ... get your FREE copy of Joomla! today and spread the word about this benchmark project.
